Hunt leaves European Tour to lead PTP’s eSports push

Tim Hunt has left his role as the head of marketing at golf’s European Tour to join Premier Team Promotions, the UK-based events company.
Hunt, who was at the European Tour for 10 years, will lead Premier Team Promotions as it attempts to expand its eSports portfolio, which presently comprises the annual ‘Esports Awards‘.
Speaking to Sportcal, Hunt said that the company’s latest eSports venture will seek to build on PTP’s existing experience from working with rugby union and soccer clubs to host events, testimonial matches and charity galas.
PTP also encompasses MBN Promotions, an event hosting and speaker agency, and London’s ‘UK Investor Show’.
In 2008, Hunt joined the European Tour after spending several months consulting with tennis’ ATP on the inaugural edition of the World Tour Finals at London’s O2 Arena.
Before that, he was commercial director of tennis’ Queen’s Club Championships.
Hunt occupied various roles while at the European Tour, initially joining as brand director before becoming marketing communications director and eventually head of marketing in 2016.
Explaining the motivation behind his move to PTP, Hunt said: “I’ve always been particularly interested in rugby and eSports so the opportunity of working in eSports and looking at how we can take the commercial model of rugby and take it to the next level while also aligning it with eSports was very attractive to me. I’m optimistic about what the business of rugby has for eSports.
“eSports is a new challenge but I’ve always looked at is as a commercial opportunity. It’s a route to market and a platform for commercial activity. It’s also an avenue to engage an audience that is very hard to engage with via traditional sports.”
PTP is expected to announce its first major eSports tie-up in the next few months.
