Glasgow Airport joins slate of Glasgow 2018 sponsors
Glasgow Airport, the Scottish city’s flight hub, has become the latest company to sign up to sponsor the 2018 European Championships in Glasgow.
The company has been named as the ‘Official Airport’ of the multi-sport championships and an ‘Official Supporter’ of the event.
Under the deal, Glasgow Airport will provide arrivals, departures and transport links to the surrounding venues in the run-up to and during the championships.
Glasgow Airport joins Aggreko, the Scotland-based provider of temporary power and temperature control solutions, NVT Group, the Scottish IT services firm, Avid, the broadcast graphics firm, Atos, the IT services corporation, Gleneagles, the luxury hotel in Perthshire, and Harper MacLeod, the Scottish law firm, in supporting the event.
Francois Bourienne, Glasgow Airport’s commercial director, said: “This will be the biggest sporting event the country has seen since the 2014 Commonwealth Games, which were a tremendous success and placed Glasgow firmly on the map as a gateway to Scotland.
“The 2014 Games (Commonwealth Games in Glasgow) also showcased to the world that Scotland can not only host major sporting events superbly well, but that it can do so with its own unique warmth and style. The summer of 2014 was an unforgettable experience and there was a real buzz around the airport as the world descended on Glasgow.
“I’m in no doubt the 2018 European Championships will be equally successful and the team here at Glasgow Airport is looking forward to welcoming the thousands of athletes, officials and supporters who will pass through our doors this summer.”
The event takes place from 2 to 12 August, with Scotland to host the events in aquatics, cycling, golf, gymnastics, rowing and triathlon, with Berlin staging the athletics competition, as the sports’ European championships are amalgamated.
Late last year, Glasgow Airport became an official supplier to Commonwealth Games Scotland in a tie-up that was brokered by The Sports Consultancy, the UK-based sports marketing and media rights agency.
