Sky, the UK pay-TV broadcaster, has appointed Scott Young to head up its Formula 1 coverage, following the departure of the long-serving Martin Turner.
Young, who was previously general manager of television and content at Australia’s V8 Supercars, will take up the role at the start of next year, Sportcal understands.
He previously worked at Ten Network between 1997 and 2007, serving as executive producer of the Australian free-to-air commercial broadcaster’s coverage of motorsports, including Formula 1.
Turner’s time at Sky predates the formation of the pay-TV behemoth in 1990 when Sky Television and British Sky Broadcasting merged.
He called time on his lengthy career at Sky earlier this year, having headed up the Formula 1 coverage since the pay-TV broadcaster first acquired rights in 2012. Sky shows all races live and delayed (plus extensive associated content) on its dedicated F1 channel, while 10 races are currently shown live on Channel 4, the UK free-to-air broadcaster.
The broadcaster landed exclusive Formula 1 rights from 2019 to 2024 in a deal agreed in early 2016 and worth over £1 billion ($1.34 billion).
Prior to taking on the role of Sky Sports’ head of Formula 1, Turner was executive producer of the broadcaster's rugby union coverage.
