Canale 5 audience nears 4m as Roma win group
Canale 5, the Mediaset-owned free-to-air commercial channel in Italy, netted an average audience of 3.86 million viewers last night as Roma qualified for the knockout stages of the Uefa Champions League as surprise group winners.
The 1-0 victory over Qarabag FK, of Azerbaijan, attracted a 14.7-per-cent viewing share on the channel.
In Germany, Bayern Munich's 3-1 win against Paris Saint Germain last night was watched by 1.46 million people on pay-TV's Sky Deutschland, equal to a market share of 5.1 per cent.
The game was somewhat of a dead rubber as both clubs had already qualified for the knockout stages, and as a result it was not shown on a free-to-air channel in Germany.
ZDF, the German public-service broadcaster, is contracted to air one live Champions League game per week in a deal worth around €60 million ($70.75 million) per season, and has decided to show tonight's RB Leipzig-Besiktas match. Leipzig must better FC Porto's result against Monaco to qualify for the round of 32.
