Discovery’s APAC chief Bastings to exit for second time
Arthur Bastings, president and managing director of Asia-Pacific operations at Discovery Communications, the international media group that owns Eurosport, is leaving his position at the end of the year.
Bastings (pictured) rejoined Discovery in September 2015, reporting to J-B Perrette, president of Discovery Networks International, and working alongside Peter Hutton, Eurosport’s chief executive, in strengthening Discovery Network Asia-Pacific’s sports content and strategies.
He has chosen not to renew his contract, Discovery has said, with the general managers for Southeast Asia, India, Japan/North Asia, Australia, New Zealand and Pacific to now report directly to Perrette.
Singapore-based Bastings joined Discovery from Millicom, the international telecoms firm, where was a member of the executive committee responsible for Africa and financial services.
He spent six years as Discovery’s executive vice-president and managing director of Europe, Middle East and Africa, before leaving in 2010.
During his second stint at Discovery, he was responsible for the company’s commercial and operational units in the region, including sales, channel distribution, production, research, marketing and digital media.
In 2015, Discovery agreed a deal to acquire Setanta Sports Asia, the pay-TV broadcaster that operates in 16 Asian countries.
