Manchester United launch MUTV app for international fans
Manchester United, of English soccer’s Premier League, have launched a subscription mobile app for MUTV, the club’s in-house television channel, for fans outside the UK and Ireland.
The MUTV app is available on the Apple and Google Play app stores in 165 countries at an average cost of $5.99 per month.
The app will feature live streams, on-demand videos and exclusive content, including live commentary of Manchester United games and pre and post-match analysis.
Richard Arnold, Manchester United group managing director, said: "The MUTV app is the next phase of innovation at Manchester United. It allows our global family of 659 million followers to access the magic of Manchester United past and present direct to their mobile devices."
Plans for the app were initially revealed last week, as Manchester United announced record turnover of £157.9 million ($198 million) for the final three months of 2016.
In his press conference announcing the club’s earnings, Ed Woodward, Manchester United executive vice-chairman and director, revealed that as well as the UK & Ireland, the app will not be available in countries where the club has exclusive commercial deals. He said: “It cannot go into the UK, because of the deed of license restrictions with the Premier League. So it’s not in the UK and it is not in many countries worldwide where we have sponsorship deals in existence with partners who can utilise an exclusive content within those territories.”
