TWI Wins Contract to Host Broadcast Commonwealth Games

Multi-sport games - 14 May 2004

Australia's leading sports production company, Transworld International (TWI) Australia, will provide Host Broadcast services to the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Organising Committee.

The appointment of TWI Australia, the broadcast division of top sports marketing corporation International Management Group (IMG), as host brodcaster follows an extensive international tender process.

TWI Australia will be responsible for covering the sporting competition from each of the Games venues, and making this feed available to each of the rights holders. The Nine Network is already the Australian rights holder for the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.

'We are delighted that TWI will support the Organising Committee to broadcast television images of our historic event around the globe,' Chairman of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Organising Committee, Ronald Walker, said.

'In conjunction with rights holders from around the Commonwealth - including our Australian rights holder, the Nine Network - images of elite sports competition from our world-class venues will reach over 1 billion people.'

TWI's International Vice President, Lynton Taylor said: 'Through our international networks, TWI have gathered the industry's best television professionals to ensure that Victoria's most historic event is broadcast seamlessly to the world.'

Melbourne boasts some of the world's finest sporting venues, with the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games utilising over 70 competition and non-competition venues. Over 4,500 elite athletes from 72 countries will compete in 16 sports and 24 disciplines. Spectacular Opening and Closing Ceremonies and an unrivalled Cultural Program will also provide non-stop colour and action for the world's broadcast media.

The Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games will be held from 15- 26 March.
