Travelex Contributes AUD$1 Million to World Cricket Tsunami Appeal
Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland congratulated Travelex, a long term supporter of cricket, for agreeing to be event partner, and for helping to guarantee that the match would make a tangible difference to Tsunami victims.
"Pulling a match of this scale together in little over a week has been a mammoth task, which has only been possible because of the goodwill of so many organisations and individuals," he said.
"Travelex's gesture is important for Tsunami victims, but it is also a morale boost for the large number of people who are working to make this match a reality. We hope now that as many companies and individuals as possible will join in supporting the Appeal.”
Travelex Chairman and CEO Lloyd Dorfman said: “No-one could fail to be moved by the plight of the many thousands of Tsunami victims, and we felt it was important for us to help in some way.
“This event particularly appealed to us as a global business because it brings together the top players from many different cricket-playing nations around the world in an unprecedented gesture of support and solidarity.
“International cricket has responded magnificently, and we are proud to be associated with the Appeal in this way,” he added.
Cricket Australia, Cricket Victoria and the Melbourne Cricket Club are organising the star-studded International Cricket Council (ICC) World XI versus Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Asian XI match on behalf of the ICC, ACC and the Federation of Cricketers' Associations.
The match will raise funds for World Vision’s Tsunami Relief Fund.
Play starts at 2:10pm at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Monday 10 January.
