Super League Clubs in US Challenge Tournament
Three Tetley's Bitter Super League clubs are heading to the United States to take part in an exciting Rugby League event which aims to give a major boost to the sport's development across the Atlantic.
Halifax Blue Sox, Huddersfield-Sheffield Giants and Leeds Rhinos will travel to Jacksonville in Florida in late January next year to take part in the 'Sunshine State Challenge'.
During their 9 day stay, each club will set up their own independent training camps taking advantage of Florida's excellent climate to prepare for the start of Super League VI.
The visit will culminate with the 'Sunshine State Challenge' - a Rugby League festival which will feature the three Tetley's Bitter Super League clubs plus the United States Tomahawks international team.
This will be staged at Jacksonville's Alltel Stadium - the home of leading NFL side Jacksonville Jaguars.
During their visit, the Blue Sox, the Giants and the Rhinos will carry out Rugby League coaching and development activity in separate areas of the local community.
The expanded event has been created following Halifax Blue Sox's pioneering training visit to America last year. Following this great success the United States Rugby League invited Tetley's Bitter Super League clubs to travel to Florida in 2001.
The visit to Florida will last 9 days in total. The teams will depart on Friday 26th January 2001 and the festival itself will take place on Saturday 3rd February 2001.
