SportAccord to Discuss Key Issues Facing Sports Industry
SportAccord, the International Sports Convention, takes place 12 – 16 May 2003 in Madrid, Spain. SportAccord brings representatives from the 95 International Sports Federations affiliated to GAISF (General Association of International Sports Federations), ASOIF (Association of Summer Olympic International Federations), AIOWF (Association of the International Olympic Winter Sports Federations), as well as the IOC (International Olympic Committee) Executive Board, together with broadcasters, sponsors, sports lawyers and other specialists to discuss the key issues facing the sports world and industry.
Managed on behalf of the Federations and running parallel with their annual Associations’ Congress and General Assemblies, SportAccord gathers together key executives from the leading international sports federations, while adding a series of open conference sessions, workshops, seminars and an exhibition to the Associations’ meeting schedule.
The open conference sessions will be based around topical themes adopted for each of the five days of the convention. Experts have been approached to develop a programme that is likely to cover broadcasting, sponsorship and marketing, event management and infrastructure, law, finance, ethical issues and other areas of importance.
Dr Un Yong Kim, President of GAISF and Chairman of the IOC Radio and Television Commission, comments: 'This international event represents a great opportunity for the world of sport to address key issues in this uncertain environment. This is the first time that we have asked such organisations to contribute in this manner. This innovative approach will create a forum for formal discussion and informal networking where we will use our collective experience and knowledge to set the sports agenda for the first decade of the 21st century.'
Denis Oswald, President of ASOIF, comments: 'Our Associations are looking for a way to save time and money in the management of all our meetings and SportAccord is the answer. At the same time, we want to create an inclusive atmosphere where everyone affected by and involved in the management of sport could come together and interact in one venue.'
René Fasel, President of AIOWF, comments: 'SportAccord is the occasion when the world of sport can convene on an international scale. The way we all do business in sport calls for a more cohesive approach and this convention meets this demand.'
