Sport Relief Challenge Bursts Through The £100,000 Barrier At Loch Lomond
The European Tour Sport Relief Challenge burst through the £100,000 mark after the first round of the Barclays Scottish Open, where the lowest round of the day on Thursday – six under par 65 – meant that £4500 was added to the previous £97,192 total, taking the Tour’s Sport relief contribution to £101,692.
The European Tour has been supporting Sport Relief since its launch in 2002 and raised £19,500 at the recent BMW Championship – The Players’ Flagship in May.
This week, title sponsors Barclays, host venue Loch Lomond Golf Club and The European Tour have all pledged their support to Sport Relief 2006. The system for raising the money sees the sponsor, the venue and the Tour each donate £250 per shot for the lowest score to par in every round.
First round leaders Johan Edfors and David Drysdale were the men responsible for raising Thursday’s £4500, with both men opening the tournament with rounds of six under par 65.
In addition to the Tour’s Sport Relief Challenge, Barclays will also run a competition with BBC Radio 5 Live that will see two thirds of the money raised from entry fees to the competition going to Sport Relief.
