Rugby League's World Club Challenge Brings in Record Sponsorship

Rugby league - 10 Feb 2003

Sponsorship income generated by the forthcoming Rugby League World Club Challenge between St Helens and Sydney Roosters has reached record levels (for the event) - with total revenue approaching a six figure sum.

The unique nature of the global clash created an opportunity for companies to become official associate partners of the event - which takes place this Friday 14th February at the Reebok Stadium (8.00pm KO).

The following companies and brands are supporting the game in this way: Casio, Gillette, Hyundai, Kellogg's Nutri-Grain, Intelligent Finance, Lloyds TSB , Sainsbury's, Weetabix, Wilson Connolly Homes and William Hill.

Commenting on the news, The Rugby Football League Marketing Director Chris Green said,

'It is extremely pleasing that the 2003 World Club Challenge has generated this record level of sponsorship income.

'The prestigious nature of the many blue chip companies and brands which have become involved is a clear indication of the event's value and the match gives them an opportunity to gain a strong profile in both the northern and southern hemispheres'.

Green added,

'In addition to this, a major Rugby League event has once again generated an excellent take up from the sporting corporate hospitality market and those many people choosing to enjoy the World Club Challenge in this way will have a tremendous evening'.

The World Club Challenge takes place at the Reebok Stadium on Friday 14th February 2003 (KO 8.00PM). Tickets are still on sale from Rugby League Events (0870-990 1313) or from the St Helens Box Office. Tickets are also available from the Reebok Stadium.
