Rugby League Development Officer appointed in Belfast
Rugby League World Cup 2000 announces that thirty five year old Peter McGowan has been appointed as Ireland World Cup Co-ordinator.
McGowan will carry out the day to day marketing and development activities in the build up to one of the most important days in the Lincoln Financial Group Rugby League World Cup: the game on the opening day of the tournament at Windsor Park, Belfast on Saturday 28th October 2000.
The appointment of McGowan is in partnership with the local authority, Belfast chamber of commerce and Rugby League World Cup 2000 Ltd and will follow on from the hard work done by former Director of Development for the Rugby Football League, Tom O'Donovan.
Speaking about the appointment of McGowan, Ireland World Cup Development Manager, Niel Wood said:
'The appointment of Peter is another step on the long road of establishing the sport of Rugby League in Ireland. It gives me immense pleasure to see this progress, having been involved in Irish Rugby League since it's inauguration in 1989.'
Peter McGowan said: 'This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, both for myself and Ireland. We must all get behind our team, this is a World Cup and we must make it a huge success.'
