Rugby Football League Back in the Black
Nigel Wood, the Rugby Football League’s Director of Finance and Chief Operating Officer, has reported that the RFL is now back in the black for the first time in ten years.
Following the restructuring of the game two years ago, the RFL has recorded two annual profits which have eliminated prior years’ losses.
Wood said: 'The profit we generated from 2003 has put the RFL accounts back in the black and we remain hopeful that the profit we have forecasted for 2004 will reinforce our position.
'The RFL traded at record levels during 2003 and that reflects the increasing confidence of the sport'.
Part of the RFL’s financial planning for the future sees a budget in excess of £1 million set to fall under the remit of the proposed Community Board, a new body which will oversee the development of the sport outside the professional game.
