Badminton Pledges Further and Faster Global Development

Badminton - 09 Sep 2002

09/09/2002 : The International Badminton Federation (IBF) is to focus on further and faster global development, the Executive Board has announced following their weekend meeting in Bangkok.

In line with President Korn Dabbaransi's 2001 election promise, greater assistance will be provided to the less-developed badminton countries, with the establishment of full-time offices in each of the five continents a priority.

The Executive Board has agreed a programme of financial support for the creation or expansion of Confederation offices, starting in 2003, with standards established to ensure that the Continental Confederations' administration expenditure will result in improved efficiency, higher quality of work and increased rate of development activities.

A programme of itinerant (roving) coaches has also been confirmed with implementation in Pan-America in late 2002 and increasing implementation in 2003.

The programme is geared towards helping IBF's Member Associations in a practical way to enhance playing standards and coaching structures within their own countries.

In light of recent changes to some of IBF's major world events, guaranteeing each continent a team in the finals of the Thomas, Uber and Sudirman Cups, a further development programme will also be devised to underpin the new continental qualifying structure, and to help less-developed continents to improve the standard of their top teams.

IBF will also help to promote badminton in its less-developed member states by arranging roadshows of top players to give exhibition matches and demonstrations.
