Pound to Deliver Keynote at FT Sport Industry Summit 2007

Business - 01 Nov 2007

Dick Pound, the outgoing chairman of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and former vice president of the International Olympic Committee, will make his last public address in that role tomorrow when he delivers the keynote speech at the FT Sport Industry Summit 2007.

The outspoken Pound, whose vast experience in sporting governance has helped shape the direction of the industry for the past 30 years, will stand down from his post as WADA chairman at the body’s next executive meeting in two weeks time.

Pound’s leadership in clamping down on the use of performance-enhancing drugs has placed him at the forefront of one of the biggest issues in sport and his last official speech promises to be an insightful and hard-hitting address.

Pound’s presence at the FT Sport Industry Summit 2007 is one of a number of highlights laid out in the programme for the day where breaking news issues such as the potential for an England bid to host the 2018 World Cup and the match-fixing problems blighting tennis promise to be high on the agenda.

Among the other speakers confirmed for this year’s Summit include Tim Leiweke, president, Anschutz Entertainment Group; David Gill, CEO, Manchester United; Brian Barwick, chief executive, The Football Association; Gerry Sutcliffe, Minister for Sport; Mark McCafferty, CEO, Premier Rugby; Leonard Ryan, CEO, Setanta Sports; Sir John Hegarty, worldwide creative director, Bartle Bogle Hegarty; Peter Moore, president, EA Sports; Sally Hancock, Olympic partnerships director, LloydsTSB; Mike Thompson, head of sponsorship, E.ON; Pete da Silva, CEO, A1GP World Cup of Motorsport; Etienne de Villiers, ATP president and CEO; Sir Keith Mills, CEO, TEAM Origin; Paul Deighton, CEO, London 2012 organising committee LOCOG; Trevor Watkins, partner and sports law specialist, Clarke Willmott; Saul Pearce, vice president, Samsung Europe; Jacques Raynaud, vice-chairman, Eurosport International; and Randall Campbell, managing director – head of the sports advisory and finance group, Societe Generale Corporate Investment Bank.

Television sports presenters John Inverdale and Hazel Irvine will act as facilitators for the panels and interviews that make up the FT Sport Industry Summit 2007.
