Olympic Qualification kicks off at the 2015 Trampoline Gymnastics World Championships in Denmark

Gymnastics - 30 Nov 2015

World Champions were crowned and the first Olympic qualifications in trampoline for Rio 2016 were awarded this weekend at the 2015 Trampoline Gymnastics World Championships in Odense, Denmark.

China, Russia and Japan each earned the right to send two gymnasts to Rio to compete in Men's Individual Trampoline, while Belarus and France each earned one spot as the first Olympic berths were allocated Sunday in Denmark. In the Women's competition, China, Belarus and Great Britain each won two places for their gymnasts at the Games.

“These Championships were the first stop on the Road to Rio, and for us it was very important that the organisation of this competition be up to the Olympic standard," said Slava Corn, Vice President of the FIG and continued: "I would like to thank and commend the Danish Federation, Sport Event Denmark and the city of Odense for having risen to the challenge and given the gymnasts an excellent opportunity to achieve their best performances."

Tumbling World Champions crowned

The Chinese women, who won the World title in Women's Tumbling, were awarded their medals by H.R.H. Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark, who attended the competition Friday evening. The Danish Crown Prince has been a member of the International Olympic Committee since 2009.

Organisers touched

“The World Championships in trampoline, tumbling and DMT will go down in the history of the Danish Gymnastics Federation as one of the biggest events ever. We have worked for this for several years and the culmination happened in those days. I would like to extend special thanks to all our volunteers and especially the organizing committee, Sport Event Denmark and Sport Event Fyn. I am a very proud of our achievements, and I must say that I’m actually also a bit touched. The event is now over, but the memories from this event will be with me forever,” says Janne Jelstad, Event Manager, Danish Gymnastics Federation.

Also the partners Sport Event Denmark and Sport Event Fyn express satisfaction about the event:

”The FIG World Championships in Trampoline, Tumbling and DMT 2015 this week in Denmark was the first qualification for the Olympics in Rio 2016. We are proud to have hosted this epic event and hope that all the athletes, FIG, spectators and the World of Gymnastics will bring good memories back from Odense. Hopefully we will be able to invite the Gymnastic Family to come back to Denmark in the future for new and exciting events,” says Lars Lundov, CEO, Sport Event Denmark.

“The 2015 World Championships was a great experience for Odense and we believe that both athletes and audience from abroad will bring back great experiences from our island. Together with Sport Event Denmark and The Danish Gymnastics Federation we are proud to be able to meet the expectations of a host for a huge event like this. Odense is a city that likes to jump when it comes to sports events, and we are already looking forward to future events”, says Jane Jegind, Mayor of Sports, Culture and Urban Development in the City of Odense and Vice President of Sport Event Fyn.

In the upcoming week the future stars of gymnastics will compete in the World Age Group Competition, WAGC, in the same world class settings.
