Multi-Million Pound boost for Super League Community Education Initiatives
5 Super League clubs are to share in government education funding worth over £3 million, which will enable them to provide vital help for children in their community.
'Playing for Success' is a Department of Education and Employment scheme, which involves sports organisations creating classroom facilities at their stadia. These are used to provide after-school support and extra study time for children who most need it.
The funding to operate the scheme has previously been restricted to Premiership and First Division soccer clubs.
The Super League clubs receiving the full 'Playing for Success' grant are Bradford Bulls, Halifax Blue Sox, Leeds Rhinos and Warrington Wolves. Hull F.C. are also benefiting from an 'Innovation Pilot ' grant.
Super League (Europe) Limited Community Development Director Gary Tasker said, 'It's fantastic for Rugby League that the sport has secured 5 out of the 10 grants available. Over a 6 month period, several representations were made with the aim of securing these awards and it's a tribute to the level of expertise we now have within our club administrations that we've been recognised in such a major way.'
Tasker explained, 'Within education, sport is a tremendous vehicle for encouraging children to work hard and develop themselves, it transcends barriers in a unique way.
'Rugby League prides itself on giving something back to the communities which support the game and our vibrant and innovative approach will ensure we exceed expectations when fulfilling project criteria.'
