London Knights Announce New Sponsor
The London Knights have announced that the Evening Standard newspaper will be their title sponsor for the 2000/01 season.
The two year deal has been put into place for the start of the 2000/2001 season and will undoubtedly catapult the Knights presence in London.
This announcement by the London Knights is the most significant in the organisation's two year history. The fight for coverage of ice hockey in a sports mad city such as London comes at a critical time for the Knights.
Launching the third season with a partner such as the Evening Standard drives home the point that the London Knights are worth investing in.
Brian Jokat, CEO of the London Knights comments. ' Our organisation today has taken a giant leap forward. The Evening Standard executives feel the partnership is something solid to associate themselves with, and the deal being for two years shows the commitment they have made to the club. We look forward to a close working relationship in various areas of the Associated Newspaper Group throughout the term.'
Mick Dennis, Executive Sports Editor of the Evening Standard says 'London's newspaper is delighted to have agreed this relationship with the London Knights. We hope it will be good for both of us - our goal is to give the sport of ice hockey a higher profile. The Knights led the table for most of last season, it would be wonderful to think they could be leading it at the end of this season.'
The London Knights new shirts featuring the Evening Standard logo will be there for all to see this Saturday when the Knights travel to Nottingham for their first game of the season. The Knights play their first home game at the London Arena at 4pm on Sunday September 3rd, against Sheffield Steelers.
