IEC in Sports and NTV Extend Volleyball Cooperation on FIVB World Grand Champions Cup
The WGCC has been held since 1993, but in 2005 IEC in Sports distributed coverage outside the host country for the first time in the event’s history. Following the success of cooperation between NTV and IEC the two companies renewed the contract for the next event to be held in the fall of 2009. “After such wide spread international distribution in 2005 when the event was broadcast in well over 100 countries, NTV is pleased to continue cooperation with IEC on the next FIVB World Grand Champions Cup in 2009” said Tomoya Takahaashi Associate Chief Producer of NTV Sports.
The FIVB World Grand Champions Cup ensures that the world’s best Men’s and Women’s national teams play competitively between the Olympic Games and FIVB World Championships. Therefore, the FIVB World Grand Champions Cup together with the FIVB World Cup which IEC in Sports also represents are the top competitions after the Olympics and World Championships. “Volleyball and Beach Volleyball form a major part of IEC in Sports’ global sports television business and the FIVB World Grand Champions Cup is among the most important properties we distribute. IEC are very committed to working with our partners at NTV to expand distribution of this high profile event even further” commented Jonas Persson, CEO of IEC in Sports.
The dates for the 2009 FIVB World Grand Champions Cup are 11-16 November for the Women’s tournament and then 18-23 November for the Men’s event. IEC in Sports continues as the leading distributor of Volleyball and Beach Volleyball programming worldwide. The agency serves as the FIVB’s distributor and TV coordinator for the annual FIVB World Grand Prix and the FIVB Beach Volleyball series comprising The Swatch-FIVB World Tour and Swatch-FIVB World Championships of Beach Volleyball. In addition, IEC in Sports serves as the TV agency for the Asian Volleyball Confederation handling the Asian Volleyball Championships for both Men and Women in the fall of 2007. The agency will also distribute the Asian Championships of Beach Volleyball for the first time in the spring of 2007 as well.
NTV is one of the most successful commercial television networks worldwide. From 1993 to 2000 NTV was the top-rated station in Japan for seven consecutive years, which remains a record in the Japanese television industry. Presently NTV is locked in a fierce battle for the top position in Japan with Fuji TV. NTV is also host to the largest number of games of Japan’s most popular baseball team, the Tokyo Yomuri Giants. The 2009 edition of the FIVB World Grand Champions Cup will mark the fifth time the event has been hosted by NTV.
