Hull handed record fine

Rugby league - 17 May 2000

Hull have received a record À50,000 fine by the Rugby Football League after their fans ran riot at the Challenge Cup semi-final.

Hull fans invaded the pitch after their defeat against Leeds at Huddersfield's McAlpine Stadium in March. Mounted police were needed to disperse the fans after they tore down goalposts and ripped up the turf.

The RFL board of directors decided not to suspend the club from the Cup and have also suspended À30,000 of the fine for two years.
