Gymnastics Withdraws Two Medals for Doping

Gymnastics - 05 Mar 2002

Moutier, March 04, 2002: The Russian Rhythmic gymnasts, Alina Kabaeva and Irina Tchachina were both declared positive at a doping control test during the Goodwill Games in Brisbane in August, 2001.

According to decisions taken by the FIG Commission on February 20, 2002, all the scores achieved by these gymnasts at the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships last year in Madrid (ESP) have been removed from the ranking. Ms Kabaeva and Ms Tchachina have been requested to return their medals to the FIG, which will award the new champions accordingly.

New ranking lists have been released. The decision affects the Team Competition, the All Around and the Apparatus Finals.
