Finals Finale For Family Fun

Ice hockey - 30 Mar 2000

There's just days to go before the climax of the 1999/2000 Sekonda Superleague season is upon us. The Sekonda Superleague Play-Off Finals will take place on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd April at the Manchester Evening News Arena, and for addicts of quality ice hockey, this fun weekend represents their last chance to gain a fix before the withdrawal period of the off-season. The first semi-final on Saturday 1st (face-off 14.00hrs), will be between the Newcastle Riverkings and the Sheffield Steelers. The Riverkings will be looking to win through to their first ever Superleague Final, and the Steelers, who recently won the Superleague Challenge Cup, will be looking to return the trophy to the space it occupied in their cabinet at the end of the inaugural Superleague season. At 18.30hrs, the Ayr Scottish Eagles and the London Knights will join the hunt for a place in the Final. The Eagles won the play-off title two seasons ago, but have failed to add to their list of honours since that time. For the Knights, it will be the first outing to the finals in their short two-year existence, and also a chance for them to gain their first piece of Superleague silverware. The winner of each semi-final will go forward to the Sekonda Superleague Play-Off Final on Sunday 2nd April, face-off 18.00hrs. The Superleague play-off weekend is viewed as much more than an ice hockey event. Ice Hockey fans not only witness high-class play from the semi-finalists, but can also celebrate the end of ice hockey's Millennium season in style. For those who like more than a dash of fun mixed in with their hockey, there is no bigger party than the Sekonda Superleague play-off finals. The revelry will last all weekend as fans from all over the UK converge in Manchester and party on into the small hours. Plus, with a wide variety of trade stands - and not forgetting the NHL slap-shot cage - at the event, there will plenty to keep fans of all ages amused and entertained when the action on the ice takes a break. The full fixture itinerary for the hockey extravaganza is as follows: Saturday 1st April Newcastle Riverkings v Sheffield Steelers 14.00hrs Ayr Scottish Eagles v London Knights 18.30hrs Sunday 2nd April England Under 19's v Scotland Under 19's 14.00hrs The Sekonda Superleague Play-off Final 18.00hrs To book your hot seat at the weekend, call the ticket hotline on 0161 930 8000 or accessing the ticketmaster website at www.ticketmaster.co.uk. 30th March 2000 For further information contact Stephanie Harwood or Nadine Squire on 01342 851001, email harwoodandco@btinternet.com or visit the Sekonda Superleague website at www.iceweb
