FIM offers new live video application!

Based on the success of the test carried out during the first round of the 2013 FIM Endurance World Championship, the FIM is pleased to announce that a new service for TV Broadcasters, sponsors & Teams will be available at the Le Mans 24 Hours.

For the famous Bol d’Or held in April 2013, the FIM appointed leading live video production systems provider EVS to deploy its media delivery and distribution platform, C-Cast, to power an exclusive iPad application based . The application was based on the HD live broadcast infrastructure offering live streaming on FIM-TV.

FIM CEO Stéphane Desprez welcomes the use of new media technologies at FIM events: “Solutions like this iPad application can help the FIM to reach increase our Fans experience, its goals of quality enhancement and to increase the exposure of our major events across a wide range of media platforms. By using C-Cast we can provide end-users with new ways to consume content, putting us at the forefront of cutting- edge broadcast technology.”

“The EVS application added value not only to Endurance Teams like BMW Motorrad France, Honda TT Legends and to Getty Images, but also to major sponsors of the event such as DHL. They were given access to key video sequences pre-selected by the FIM, and could use the application to review, select and order clips with the sponsor’s branding,” explained Maria Möller, FIM TV manager.

“By using C-Cast we can provide end-users with new ways to consume content through a range of platforms, putting us at the forefront of cutting- edge broadcast technology.”

Using the application, the BMW Motorrad France and Honda TT Legends racing teams were able to review specific camera angles and follow their motorcycles on the track, switching seamlessly from one camera to another. “Being able to review otherwise inaccessible content is a huge benefit for us,” said Ian Wheeler, Communication Manager at BMW. “The app enabled us to import interesting clips or highlights as proxy files on a dedicated FTP site for further race analysis with the riders at the end,” he added.

The FIM also had an agreement with Getty Images to distribute videos of the event and make them available for to various agencies on the Getty Images website. “We were contracted by the FIM to provide exclusive video sequences and download services through our web library,” said Eugene Cariaga, commercial director, sports corporate division at Getty Images. “Through the iPad application, we could browse and make our selections. The content was then pushed to our website by EVS along with additional metadata to describe each clip.” In total more than 50 hi-resolution video highlights were provided by FIM to Getty Images, all available for download less than one hour after the live broadcast.

Leading French sports news outlet L'Equipe TV has already expressed interest in using the service for the 24 hours of Le Mans on 21 and 22 September 2013.
