Alpine Canada Alpin in Deal with Paris Glove

Skiing - Alpine - 21 Oct 2003
Calgary, Alta. (October 20, 2003) - Paris Glove of Canada Ltd, the premier manufacturer of Auclair racing gloves, will develop a new world-leading racing glove for Canada's national alpine ski racing teams as part of an eight-year contract announced today by Alpine Canada Alpin.

The new contract extension through 2011 is worth more than $1 million in leading-edge racing equipment, research and direct financial support, said Alpine Canada Alpin President Ken Read. It is the largest-ever deal signed by Paris Glove.

As part of the agreement, Auclair and the athletes and coaches of the Canadian Alpine Ski Team have combined resources and skills to research and develop world-leading racing gloves designed to improve the performance of Canada's elite alpine racers.

Using increased protection found in motorcycle gloves as a model, the first prototype gloves developed through the partnership give athletes enhanced knuckle support, allowing them to more aggressively attack gates with less fear of hand bruising and injury.

'Our clear goal is to have Auclair gloves thrust high in celebration in the finish area by medal-winning Canadian racers,' said Read. 'We intend to be a world-leading racing country by 2010 and the strong support of a company like Paris/Auclair helps deliver the resources required for our athletes to win.'

Auclair, the premier sport and outdoor division of the family-owned company, is recognized worldwide for its unflagging desire to create racing gloves that deliver unmatched high performance.

Paris Glove, and its Auclair division, has been the exclusive official supplier of gloves to the Canadian Alpine Ski Team since the 1995-96 season.

As part of the deal, which covers both the Canadian Alpine Ski Team and the Canadian Disabled Alpine Ski Team, Paris Sport has reaffirmed its commitment to actively promote racers within advertising and marketing campaigns. Additionally, the company will continue to produce a line of gloves available to the general public featuring the Alpine Canada Alpin logo.

'Paris Glove through Auclair is committed to Canadian alpine racing success and to the athletes we hope will be medal winners in Vancouver,' said Peter Monk, president of a company that has grown thirtyfold since 1946. 'This deal ensures sustainable support for our racing teams for the next eight years.'

Alpine Canada Alpin is currently implementing its Podium 2010 strategic plan designed to restore Canada as a top alpine racing nation. Extensive effort is underway at multiple levels, from the grassroots to the country's elite racers.

Alpine Canada Alpin is the governing body for ski racing in Canada. Its 27,000 members are athletes, coaches and officials, and include the racers of the Canadian Alpine Ski Team and the Canadian Disabled Alpine Ski Team.
