Basketball - 18 Nov 2002

The Board of the Euroleague, the body appointed at the General Assembly last October 4th in Madrid, held its first meeting on Saturday in Barcelona, where the following agreements have been adopted:

1. To appoint Mr. Marshall Glickman as the person responsible for the Marketing Plan of the Euroleague. Mr. Glickman, a native of Oregon (USA), is one of the most valued experts in sports marketing at an international level, with 20 years of experience in this area. His link with basketball is especially significant. From 1988 to 1995 he worked for the Portland Trail Blazers, becoming president of the franchise.

Mr. Glickman has also occupied positions of responsibility with the NBA, particularly as Broadcasting Coordinator and Director of Media Sales of NBA Properties. Also, throughout his career he has been a consultant to various professional teams of both the NBA and the American baseball and hockey leagues. He has extended his consultancy activities to areas like the promotion of sports facilities, such as the Rose Garden Arena. He is currently president of the marketing consultancy BFI International.

The NBA Commissioner, Mr. David Stern, to whom the Euroleague wants to express its gratitude for his collaboration in the recruitment of this executive, has stated that: 'Marshall is a true student of marketing, sales and brand building. His creativity and business acumen will serve him well in his work with the Euroleague and its teams.'

2. To appoint a Technical Commission formed by prominent former European players. The task of this Commission will be to collaborate with the Refereeing Department and with the coaches of the Euroleague teams for the study of the game rules, their interpretation and proposals to modify them.

This Commission will be made up of Mr. Roberto Brunamonti (Italy), Mr. Clifford Luyk (Spain), Mr. Micky Berkovitz (Israel), Mr. Drazen Dalipagic (Yugoslavia) and Mr. Panagiotis Yannakis (Greece).

3. The Board has urged the Euroleague to require Admira Media SA to strictly fulfil the payment calendar that appears in the contract of the commercialisation of the rights, in accordance with the line of its strict fulfilment that Euroleague Basketball SL and its clubs are following. The CEO of the Euroleague has been empowered to implement all the actions considered necessary for this purpose.

4. To appoint a new member of the Anti-Doping Committee, which will be formed by the following persons: Dr. Jordi Segura (Spain), Dr. Patrice Mangin (Switzerland), Dr. Wilhem Schänzer (Germany) and Dr. Dragan Radovanovic (Yugoslavia).
