Elliott and Long are Men of the Month
Bradford Bulls' Head Coach Matthew Elliott and St Helens' Scrum Half Sean Long are the first ever winners of the exciting new Tetley's Bitter Super League Monthly Awards. Elliott has been named Tetley's Bitter Super League Coach of the Month and Sean Long has become Tetley's Bitter Super League Player of the Month. Both awards are for the March/April 2000 period. A panel of leading Rugby League journalists and broadcasters were assembled to carry out the judging. They decided that under Matthew Elliott's guidance, Bradford Bulls have shown outstanding form and physical conditioning and that Sean Long has displayed tremendous skill, tactical awareness and courage on the field of play. Each winner receives a specially designed trophy and a case of Tetley's Smoothflow. Commenting on his award, Matthew Elliott said, "This makes me feel extremely proud. "I feel the credit should go to everyone in the Bulls organisation for all the hard work and dedication they have put in over the last few months." Sean Long was also delighted to be named as a winner. He said, "I'm especially pleased to get this award when you consider that players like my own team mate Keiron Cunningham and Henry Paul at the Bulls are in such good form at the moment. "I don't think I would have won this without the help of the whole Saints squad. The forwards have put in some great performances recently and I have just been playing off them." Long, who last season landed the RLPA annual award and the Super League Players' Player title, revealed that he does not set out for personal glory, "My main aim is just to concentrate on my own form and performances on the field. If the awards come then that's great but it's not the priority." Tetley's Bitter Sponsorship Manager Gareth Roberts said, "I believe the Tetley's Bitter Super League Monthly Awards will help highlight some of the outstanding performances achieved by both playing and coaching staff. This totally supports the marvelous, exciting action that the Tetley's Bitter Super League is currently producing. I would like to offer my congratulations to both winners." With the season's opening Rounds punctuated by Cup Quarter and Semi Finals, both prizes have been awarded for performances throughout the first two months of the campaign. In future, performances across a single month will be considered. Ends.
