African Journalists Get a Taste of Ligue 1

Soccer - 17 Apr 2009

African journalists get a taste of Ligue 1 The LFP and Canal France International, France’s international television development and co-operation body, have played host to ten African television journalists as part of a project that will see the visiting football reporters working with some of France’s most renowned specialists in the field.

Launched on April 6, Operation 'Ten Days at the Heart of Ligue 1' gives the ten visiting football correspondents from television stations in Burkina Faso, Benin, Cameroon, the Ivory Coast, Gabon, Senegal and the Democratic Republic of Congo the opportunity to hone their journalistic and production skills with some of France's foremost football specialists.

Since Monday 06 April, the African journalists have been working with François-Charles Bideaux (Ligue 1's Director of Production), Christian Jeanpierre (TF1's award-winning sports reporter/commentator), Philippe Doucet (Canal+'s renowned technical analyst) and Grégoire Margotton (Canal+ reporter/commentator) on matters ranging from preparing a live match broadcast through the production and direction of Ligue 1 matches to the LFP's international strategy.

The technical side of the project gave way, as of Thursday April 9, to more match-focused activities as the visitors divided into three groups and moved on to the training centres of France's biggest football clubs: Olympique Lyonnais, Olympique de Marseille and Paris Saint-Germain.

The journalists have conducted interviews and create portraits of the numerous African stars playing at these clubs, notably Bakari Koné (Ivory Coast) and Mamadou Niang (Senegal) at Marseille, Stéphane Sessegnon (Benin) at PSG and Jean II Makoun (Cameroon) at Lyon.

The resulting video articles and reports will be aired in Africa on the television stations involved in the project.
