Cricinfo Launches Site for Norwich Union League

Cricket - 10 May 2002

CricInfo.com, the world’s leading cricket website, has launched a microsite dedicated to the Norwich Union League. The new site, www.nul.cricinfo.com, will provide a wealth of Norwich Union League content to CricInfo’s 3.5 million UK users throughout the 2002 season.

The site will feature CricInfo’s trademark blend of live scores, news, features, photographs and audio, as well as new interactive features including live online chats with top players, regular competitions and a free-to-play online cricket game.

The microsite is the result of an agreement between CricInfo and Norwich Union’s sponsorship agency Total Sponsorship. CricInfo will deliver Norwich Union branding on scorecards and site content, email marketing, market research as well as offline promotions in the Daily Telegraph.

Alex Chamberlen, CricInfo’s Director of Sales, said 'It is fantastic to be working with Norwich Union and Total Sponsorship on such a targeted promotion. Cricket fans already rely on CricInfo for the best online coverage of county cricket. This sponsored site – and the associated promotional activity we are delivering - will enable Norwich Union to maximise their brand visibility in front of the biggest online cricket audience.'

Bill Reynolds from Norwich Union said 'CricInfo is probably the biggest cricket media outlet of them all, and our microsite will really bring an extra dimension to coverage of the Norwich Union League. The prominent branding and innovative promotional activity make this an extremely well put together package.'

CricInfo has already signed major advertising and sponsorship deals for this summer with Benson & Hedges, bet365, Alpha Telecom, Nokia, and Fantasy Cricket Club. Further major deals will be announced in the coming weeks.

Recent figures released by Hitwise UK, the comparative online measurement tool, confirm CricInfo’s dominance of the UK online cricket market. The figures for March 2002 show that CricInfo recorded 78.3% of all page views on cricket sites by UK internet users, almost 10 times the UK traffic of its closest competitor. CricInfo regularly records more than 100 million page views per month.
