Citibank in Australian Rugby Union Sponsorship Deal
Citibank Australia today announced a three-year sponsorship of Australian Rugby Union, making it the official bank of the ARU and the Wallabies.
Citibank Managing Director Ron Bunker said the growing popularity of rugby, the success of the Wallabies and the 2003 Rugby World Cup provided Citibank with an opportunity to take its partnership with rugby to a national level.
'We are proud of the benefits which have come from our sponsorship of the Citibank Waratahs. We now want to reproduce these benefits at the national level. The core values of rugby are very much in line with our own corporate culture and this sponsorship is a key part of Citibank's marketing strategies.'
Chief Executive Officer of Australian Rugby John O'Neill said the Citibank sponsorship deal recognised what rugby can achieve for business.
'At a time of financial uncertainty, when some sports are finding it difficult to attract sponsors, this announcement is a vote of confidence in rugby.
'Citibank obviously recognises that Australian Rugby has even more potential to expand and grow, consolidating our position as one of Australia's biggest winter participant sports.
'Citibank's sponsorship, along with others recently signed, will allow the ARU to continue expanding rugby at the grass roots level as well as consolidating our position as one of the world's leading rugby nations.
