SportAccord Convention becomes an official partner of Smart Cities & Sport

Business - 19 Sep 2017

Lausanne – Switzerland, September 19th, 2017 – Smart Cities & Sport is very pleased to announce the official partnership with SportAccord Convention. Each leaders in their fields – with SportAccord Convention being the sports industry’s leading platform for connecting organisations who have an interest in sport and Smart Cities & Sport connecting national, regional and municipal governments from all around the world with the international sport sector – this new partnership represents the ideal fit.

For cities, they will now be able to meet twice a year to discuss common challenges: during the Smart Cities & Sport Summit and during SportAccord Convention. Incidentally, this year’s Smart Cities & Sport Summit is being organised on October 2-4 in Montréal, Canada, and SportAccord Convention will take place on April 15-20, 2018 in Bangkok, Thailand.

As part of this partnership, Melanie Duparc, Coordinator of Smart Cities & Sport, will be the facilitator of the SportAccord Convention 2018’s City-to-City session, where participants will have the opportunity to share their experience and give insights on key issues that are at the centre of cities’ concerns nowadays.

As Duparc explains, this partnership is an additional opportunity for sport cities to exchange and discuss smart initiatives that connect sport with cities: “The purpose of Smart Cities & Sport is to stimulate and encourage dialogue between cities from all around the world on the key issues of today. Based on this, we launched our first Smart Cities & Sport Summit over three years ago, because we believe that cities need a conference specifically tailored for their needs – a place to discuss common challenges and opportunities linked to sport. In just a few days, we will organise the fourth edition of the Summit in Montréal. Now the addition of this new partnership with the SportAccord Convention will provide cities with a new opportunity to learn, share and connect. We are absolutely thrilled to be working with SportAccord Convention and could not ask for a better like-minded partner.”

Speaking about the partnership, SportAccord Convention Managing Director, Nis Hatt said: “We are excited to be partnering with the Smart Cities & Sport Summit for the first time in what is set to be an excellent event in a very special place. The partnership is important for SportAccord Convention as it symbolises the importance of continued dialogue and knowledge sharing between cities, regions, and countries in the realm of sport and event hosting.” Hatt went on to say “We look forward to welcoming cities from around the world to the CityAccord and City-to-City in April at the SportAccord Convention 2018 in Bangkok, Thailand and building on the important discussions started at the Smart Cities & Sport Summit.”

SportAccord Convention is the world’s premier and most exclusive annual event at the service of sport. Held in a different city each year, the Convention takes place over six days and is focused on driving positive change internationally and dedicated to engaging and connecting; international sports federations, rights holders, organising committees, cities, press and media, and organisations involved in the business of sport.

Smart Cities & Sport is the reference for any city wishing to learn about efficient and sustainable sport development strategies and to network with important actors in the sport sector.
