Alisher Usmanov on fencing as a global sport:
‘’Developing fencing around the world is one of the major objectives of the FIE and our role is to create equal opportunities for all sports people. The medal tables at junior world championship, senior world championships and at the Olympic Games are proof that the FIE’s efforts are successful as the number of medallists from different countries, especially not from the traditional fencing countries in Europe, is increasing.’’
Alisher Usmanov on fencing changes over the last years:
‘’The FIE works in close cooperation with the IOC, in order to improve and modernize the sport. During the London Olympic Games the fencing competitions were sold out. Around 8,000 spectators visited the fencing venue every day, and we also achieved an increase in TV spectators of 100, 000, 000 and reached almost two billion people. Over the last few years we have increased the amount of TV coverage of fencing events through our cooperation with Eurosport. The FIE is looking into modernizing fencing equipment and fencing apparel, for which purpose the FIE launched a fashion contest for fencing equipment manufacturers. In order to further develop the wireless fencing technology, the FIE has launched the 2016 Wireless Fencing Contest. We are looking forward to a bright future in fencing. ‘’
