World Academy of Sport to Provide Administrator Education for the International Rugby Community
This marks the establishment of the fourth in a series of partnerships between World Academy of Sport and International Sport Federations in order to establish educational academies. The IRB has long recognised the need to provide educational opportunities for stakeholders involved in Rugby and have found in the World Academy of Sport, a delivery partner that meets the needs of their administrators. All administrator programmes will be produced in conjunction with Manchester Business School at the University of Manchester.
The Chairman of the IRB, Dr. Syd Millar underlined his commitment to the initiative presenting the first graduate of IRB Administrators Academy, Daniel Mitrea, High Performance Manager of Romania with his diploma today at the General Assembly in Paris. The Chairman said "continual professional development of the Rugby community's administrators is a key strategy of the IRB in order to equip those running the game with the ability to continue its growth and deal with the challenges facing it.
"The IRB is very pleased to be in partnership with the World Academy of Sport to deliver these programmes via the IRB Administrators Academy. It is also important for the IRB that the programmes are academically underpinned by a world renowned university such as the University of Manchester."
Director of the World Academy of Sport, Chris Solly said, "Sport generally is becoming increasingly professional. The programmes that will be delivered by the IRB Administrators Academy are tailored to the needs of the constituent Unions of the IRB. The aim will be to deliver programmes in a number of key functional areas of sport and major events targeted to provide the necessary business foundation for administrators to remain competitive."
He added "the IRB Administrators Academy will enable the IRB to put in place the educational platform required to assist their greatest asset, their people".
The majority of administrator programmes for officials, office bearers, and staff will be delivered at the Manchester Business School, which is recognised as one of the premier business schools in Europe. Since its formation in 1965 Manchester Business School has become an internationally recognised centre of excellence for management studies. It is renowned for its pioneering hands on approach to learning and the project-based Manchester Method. Manchester Business School is one of the world's top business schools for providing executive education programmes to many world leading organisations. Through this partnership the IRB Administrators Academy will have a global reach with offices in United Kingdom, Australia, Switzerland, Middle East, Caribbean, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
