Foxtel to continue offering BeIN Sports content in Australia
Foxtel, the Australian pay-television broadcaster, has agreed a renewed distribution deal with Qatar-based international network BeIN Sports.
Under a multi-year extension, Foxtel will continue to provide a platform for BeIN's slate of sports programming including European soccer, rugby and tennis, both on its subscription TV offering and streaming service Kayo Sports.
BeIN holds rights in Australia to various soccer leagues and competitions including Italy's Serie A, France’s Ligue 1, Germany’s Bundesliga, England’s EFL Cup and EFL Championship, the Scottish Premiership and North America’s MLS.
The broadcaster is also the home of northern hemisphere rugby including the European club game's Heineken Champions Cup and European Rugby Challenge Cup, and over 40 ATP Tour and 40 WTA Tour tennis tournaments and the Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup.
The BeIN offering complements Foxtel's own premium content, including domestic cricket, the National Rugby League, Australian rules football’s Australian Football League, and Australian motor racing's Supercars Championship, with Super Netball to come in 2022.
As part of the renewed tie-up, Foxtel Sports customers will continue to have free access to the BeIN Sports Connect app.
Foxtel Media will also continue to represent BeIN Sports for its advertising sales in Australia.
Foxtel claims to have 2.4 million sports subscribers.
Rebecca McCloy, Foxtel Group commercial director – sports, said: “We have never had more sports subscribers and BeIN Sports provides Foxtel and Kayo subscribers with a real depth in European football, international rugby and tennis.
“Together with our coverage of the most popular Australian sports and our long-term commitment to women’s and under-represented sports, our partnership with BeIN Sports consolidates the Foxtel Group’s position as the home of sport in Australia.”
Mike Kerr, BeIN Sports Asia Pacific managing director, added: “Since BeIN Sports’ launch in Australia, we have grown alongside Foxtel to offer fans the best of European football, international rugby and tennis.
“This year we expanded our content offering to include the ATP and European Professional Club Rugby. These new rights further demonstrate our ongoing commitment to deliver a great sports experience. We are grateful for Foxtel’s support and look forward to deepening our collaboration and providing more content choices to subscribers.”
