HBA secures global coverage for Pegasus World Cup

HBA Media, the independent rights agency in horse racing, has struck broadcast rights deals across key global territories for the upcoming Pegasus World Cup Championship Invitational Series.
The US horse racing event, taking place this Saturday, will be shown in its home market by national network NBC.
Major broadcasters in Europe include Sky Sports Racing in the UK and Ireland, Italy’s Sky Italia, Match TV in Russia and Movistar in Spain.
Coverage in the region will also be provided by Polsat (Poland), SilkNet (Georgia), BeIN Sports (Turkey), Sport TV (Portugal) and Setanta Sports (Baltics/Eurasia).
The race will be shown in Latin America by ESPN and in the Caribbean by Sportsmax, while coverage in Australia will be provided by Racing.com and Sky Thoroughbred Central.
Among the new broadcasters for the event is FITE, the digital streaming platform, which will make its horse racing debut by showing the Pegasus World Cup across more than 20 territories.
FITE has traditionally specialised in combat sports.
SNTV, the sports video news agency co-owned by IMG and the Associated Press, Sports Confidential, and Reuters will provide further race content to news outlets worldwide.
Henry Birtles, chief executive of HBA Media, said: “In these extraordinary times, our team has once again successfully delivered a global distribution worthy of this event. Throughout the pandemic, horse racing has shone as a sport that works exceptionally well for broadcasters – with or without spectators - and consequently, the channels have been rewarded with increased interest from their audience.”
The fifth edition of the Pegasus World Cup will take place at Gulfstream Park in Miami.
The Pegasus World Cup, for thoroughbreds aged four years and up, was launched by The Stronach Group, the owner of the venue, in 2017 as the then world’s richest horse race.
For the forthcoming event, there will be prize money of $3 million for the Pegasus World Cup and $1 million for the Pegasus World Cup Turf.
