Servus TV races off with exclusive WRC rights in DACH to 2022
The new two-year agreement covers Austria, Germany and Switzerland across satellite, cable, IPTV, web and mobile and begins with the 2021 season-opener, the Rally Monte-Carlo, on 24 January.
Servus will show all 12 races live, plus highlights and magazine programming, in the 2021 season.
DAZN, the over-the-top streaming platform, has been the home of WRC in Austria, Germany and Switzerland over the last two years, but that deal expired at the end of 2020.
ORF, the public-service broadcaster in Austria, also showed WRC action last year, but it too is out of the picture for the next two years.
David Morgenbesser, head of sports rights and distribution at Servus TV, said: "Servus TV is the new home for motorsport fans in Austria. With Formula 1, MotoGP and the current acquisition of the World Rally Championship, we offer the most spectacular and high-quality motorsport series free of charge on free-TV."
Servus TV will begin showing Formula 1 in Austria this year, in partnership with ORF. The pair will share free-to-air coverage of races, with grands prix alternating between the two channels.
Pay-TV F1 rights in Austria are held by Sky Deutschland as part of a deal also covering Germany and Switzerland and running to 2022.
Servus TV already holds rights to motorcycling’s MotoGP World Championship in Austria and Germany.
