England and GB Hockey secure Vitality sponsorship for women’s game
Vitality, the UK health and life insurance company, has today announced a wide-ranging three-year deal with national governing bodies England Hockey and Great Britain Hockey.
Under the deal, Vitality becomes principal partner of England Hockey and GB Hockey’s women’s teams, with the company’s logo featuring on team shirts.
It will also serve as the presenting partner of the FIH Hockey Pro League, the men's and women's national teams competition, for matches in Great Britain, and title partner of the English Women’s Hockey League, now renamed the Vitality Women’s Hockey League.
In addition, England Hockey’s grassroots participation programme has been renamed Vitality Back to Hockey, with the company working closely with England and GB Hockey to drive visibility and encourage more people to try out the sport.
The deal comes ahead of this year’s Tokyo Olympic Games, FIH Hockey Pro League and EuroHockey Championships and increases Vitality’s existing engagement in the sport.
Vitality became England Hockey’s wellness partner in 2017 and was the title partner of the 2018 Women's Hockey World Cup in London.
Nick Read, managing director of Vitality, said: “As one of the only sports played equally by men and women, hockey holds a unique position meaning it is well placed to drive engagement in physical activity with women in particular, supporting them to try out or return to the game.
“There has never been a more important time to be involved in women’s sports at all levels, inspiring many more people to become more active and live healthier lifestyles – which is all in-line with our core purpose, to make people healthier and to enhance and protect their lives.”
The deal comes after England Hockey and GB Hockey parted company with international investment bank Investec as a top-tier sponsor last August.
Nick Pink, chief executive of England Hockey and chief operating officer of GB Hockey, said: “Vitality’s commitment to women’s sport, their company values, stature as an organisation and recognition to our wider diversity and inclusion work are exciting and complimenting priorities.
“The profile of hockey has grown significantly in the last ten year, and to be able to announce this new partnership at such challenging times speaks volumes for the progress hockey in this country has made both domestically and internationally.”
Vitality is already the title sponsor of English soccer's Women's FA Cup and various men's and women's teams, and has a significant involvement in other elite and grassroots sport in the UK, including cricket, rugby, netball, golf and running.
