Volleyball Federation Urges Argentina to Solve Problems
The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) announced on Wednesday from its Swiss headquarters that Argentinean sports authorities have been asked once more to take immediate action to solve the problem of the irregular situation of Argentinean Volleyball.
The FIVB Board of Administration meeting on Tuesday, 6 May decided unanimously to suspend the FAV until it adopts specific articles of the FIVB Constitution, complies with the FIVB regulations and decisions and calls elections that must exclude members already suspended, expelled or declared ineligible by the FIVB, due to their violation of the FIVB Constitution and Code of Conduct.
On Wednesday, 7 May, the FIVB addressed letters to the Argentinean Minister of Tourism and Sports, Mr. Daniel Scioli, and the President of the Argentinean Olympic Committee, Colonel Antonio Rodriguez, asking them to encourage Argentineans to join the international Volleyball family in the respect of FIVB decisions, or to proceed to the election of a reorganising group. The Sports Minister and the NOC were sent full details of the FIVB regulations that have to be adopted. They also received a copy of the international Volleyball calendar.
‘We had withheld from suspending the FAV out of support for the players,’ said FIVB General Manager, Mr. Jean-Pierre Seppey, ‘because they were our major concern, but when nobody in Argentina understood the need for discipline at all levels and the FAV even backed the publication of a defamation campaign and insidious accusations against the FIVB and its officials, the only measure possible was the suspension of the FAV.’
