2000 Credit Suisse First Boston Hong Kong Sevens – Official Draw

Draw Procedure The 24 competing teams will be drawn into six pools of four teams each. For the purpose of the draw they have been divided into four groups of six. All teams have been seeded based upon the IRB Sevens Series results and for the teams not competing in those events, upon previous Hong Kong Sevens performances (please refer to the Draw Sheet). First Stage In accordance with the IRB Sevens Series rules, the top twelve teams have been placed in Group One and Group Two. Following this stage the first and second line of each pool will be completed. Second Stage The next six seeded teams (13-18) will be drawn at random from Group Three into the six pools. Following this stage the third line of each pool will be completed. Third Stage The final six seeded teams (19-24) will be drawn at random from Group Four into the six pools. Following this stage the fourth and final line of each pool will be completed. Upon completion of the draw, the schedule of play can then be determined. Play Schedule The preliminary pool games (36 in total) will be played on Friday, 24 March and Saturday, 25 March. At the conclusion of these games the standings in each pool will have been determined. On Sunday, March 26, three knock-out competitions will take place, the teams for these competitions will be determined by the Rules of the Championship. The top six teams will contest the Cup Championship and the bottom six teams will play in the Bowl Championship. The second and third place teams in each pool will be ranked according to their records in the round-robin stages of the competition. This ranking will determine which Championship they contest.
