The Spanish City of Bilbao, in the province of Bizkaia, has won the bid to host the start and finish of the 5-Oceans Race 2006/07.  The race will start from the Puerto Deportivo el Abra Getxo, located at the mouth of Bilbao's river, on 5th November 2006, and finish there the following spring.

1st October, 2004 – The 32nd America’s Cup will be shown in its entirety on Spanish television under a landmark agreement between the event organisers and TVE, the national broadcaster in Spain. This arrangement will begin with the programming for the Valencia Louis Vuitton Acts 2 and 3, which start on the 5th of October.

Southampton, England, September 29, 2004 - Glenn Bourke, CEO of the Volvo Ocean Race, joined Mayor Kerry Prendergast, Wellington City Council, and Stephen Moir, Commodore of the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club (RPNYC), to announce that New Zealand's capital city, Wellington, will host a pit stop for the Volvo Ocean Race from 17 - 19 February 2006. Although the event has a long association with New Zealand, this will be the first time that the race has visited Wellington.
