Viewers of the live race broadcast on BBC1 produced a loyalty rate of 87% for the 15 minute race slot – i.e. each viewer watched on average 13 minutes of this slot. This level of viewer loyalty is unsurpassed by most sports broadcasts and is traditionally the domain of non-sporting programmes, such as Coronation Street and key news broadcasts.
