LAUSANNE, Switzerland – As the city of London this week marks the start of the two-year countdown to the London Summer Olympic Games in 2012, the SportAccord Convention is preparing for the global sport summit in London in 2011, when its ninth edition gathers the leaders of world sport, including all the Summer Olympic international federations. The 2011 SportAccord Convention will take place next April 3-8 at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel in London. It will be the second time the SportAccord Convention is held in the Olympic host city one year before the Summer Games (following Beijing in 2007).

“We are very excited about holding the SportAccord Convention in London in 2011,” said Anna Hellman, executive director of SportAccord Convention. “Being in the future host city of the Summer Games generates a special buzz. London is a capital of international business and world sport and we are planning to tap into the possibilities that this offers for building a really outstanding conference programme.”

The 2011 SportAccord Convention will build on the huge success of this year’s event in Dubai in April, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The SportAccord Convention in Dubai, at the Atlantis Palm Resort, attracted over 1600 delegates, representing organisations from 76 countries, with more than 75 exhibitors.

Every year SportAccord Week features a dynamic exhibition, numerous networking receptions and top-level conference sessions, including the City Forum, as well as the annual general meetings of the Sports Governing Bodies. The Convention attracts over 1,500 leading representatives of international sport.

About the SportAccord Convention

The SportAccord Convention annually brings representatives from the 100 international sports federations and organisations affiliated to SportAccord/GAISF (General Association of International Sports Federations), ASOIF (Association of Summer Olympic International Federations) and AIOWF (Association of the International Olympic Winter Sports Federations), as well as the International Olympic Committee Executive Board, together with sponsors, bidding and host cities, architects, sports lawyers, broadcasters, games organising committees, rights holders and other specialists to discuss the key issues facing the sports industry.
Owned by SportAccord/GAISF, ASOIF and AIOWF, the SportAccord Convention encompasses the annual Congress and General Assembly of each association, while offering the sports community a powerful opportunity to come together in an exclusive and authoritative networking environment to build relationships, exchange knowledge and develop ideas.
