SBS Doubles the Giro d’Italia Live Coverage
Milan, May 2nd, 2012 – RAI and the Australian television network SBS have agreed a new rights deal to show the 2012 Giro d’Italia cycling race. The deal between SBS and the Italian public broadcaster, which is the host broadcaster and worldwide media rights distributor, will double the 2011 Giro d’Italia live coverage in Australia, allowing cycling fans to better follow action from the toughest race in the world’s most beautiful place. Eight key stages of the race will be extensively covered by SBS which will also air highlights of every stage of this year’s Giro d’Italia.

Giacomo Catano, CEO of RCS Sport, said: “we are pleased that a key broadcast partner like SBS has decided to double its live coverage of the Giro d’Italia. It confirms the success of the work we have done to raise the international profile of the race. Now we are working hard to make the racing and the television coverage as spectacular as we can for a global audience. Cycling in Australia is more popular than ever and I am sure Australian cycling fans will be glued to their television sets as they watch this year’s Giro d’Italia.”

Noel Brady, Acting Head of Sport of SBS. said: “SBS is pleased to bring Australian cycling fans even greater coverage of the Giro d'Italia, one of the biggest and most prestigious events on the international cycling calendar, doubling its live coverage in 2012 with a total eight live stage plus nightly highlights of every stage.”

SBS will broadcast daily highlights at 6:00 pm on SBS TWO, plus show eight key stages live:

Stage 6 – 11:10pm Friday 11 May on SBS TWO
Stage 7 – 11:10pm Saturday 12 May on SBS TWO
Stage 14 – 11:10pm Saturday 19 May on SBS TWO
Stage 15 – 11:10pm Sunday 20 May on SBS TWO
Stage 17 – 11:10pm Wednesday 23 May on SBS TWO
Stage 19 – 11:10pm Friday 25 May on SBS TWO
Stage 20 – 11:10pm Saturday 26 May on SBS TWO
Stage 21 – 11:10pm Sunday 27 May on SBS TWO
