Football Federation Australia (FFA) today welcomes Optus on board as the Official Telecommunications Partner of FFA's bid to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The partnership builds on Optus' longstanding commitment to football in Australia and highlights the important role of cutting edge technology in the bid process.
As part of the partnership, Optus will provide a range of technological solutions to help FFA undertake the immensely complex bid process. Optus is supporting FFA's telepresence and high definition video conferencing across its Evolve next generation IP network. The solutions are backed by Optus' team of highly-trained conferencing support specialists.
Optus also worked with FFA more broadly on the development of digital applications which formed an integral component of FFA's pitch to FIFA delegates as they visited Australia this month.
"We are delighted that Optus has come on board as an important bid partner to help further strengthen our bidding efforts," said FFA CEO Ben Buckley.
Jann Kohlman, Optus Group Manager, Sponsorship and Community, said that the partnership was an evolutionary step in Optus' support of football in Australia.
"This commitment demonstrates Optus' longstanding and ongoing commitment to all levels of football in Australia. We're excited to be part of what is a hugely significant bid for this country - bringing the world's largest sporting event to our shores.
"Our partnership with FFA for their bid to host the 2022 FIFA World CupT is about helping FFA and the bid team find new and innovative ways to make their case to FIFA and put them in the best position to win.
"The Optus Evolve infrastructure is the telecommunications foundation which allows FFA to maximise its telepresence solution, a powerful tool offering a high-quality 'virtual' meeting experience - like being there. Participants in different locations across the globe can easily work together, reducing the need to travel, speeding up the flow of information and reducing the time to make decisions. It will make it easier to engage with delegates and stakeholders across the globe", Ms Kohlman said.
The solutions provided as part of this sponsorship will fully integrate with FFA's existing Optus services, including local and international data, voice, mobile and IT services.
Optus is a supporter of football at all levels in Australia from its sponsorship of the Australian national team through to Optus Small Sided Football - a youth initiative which supports the next generation of Australian players and the grassroots of the game.
All Australians can show their support for the bid by adding their name at australiabid.com.au today.
