Hat-trick for Melbourne with 2018 World Cup of Golf
The World Cup of Golf will be played once again in Melbourne, Australia in 2018, USA's PGA Tour has announced.
The city's Metropolitan Golf Club will play host to the 28, two-person teams between 21 and 25 November.
It will be the third successive edition of the World Cup to be staged in Melbourne after 2013 and 2016, and the sixth time in Australia.
Golf Australia and Lagardère Sports, the international sports marketing agency, worked on the bid to bring the 2018 World Cup back to Melbourne.
Robyn Cooper, executive director of the Melbourne World Cup of Golf, said “We appreciate the strong cooperation of all involved to ensure Australia’s golf fans would be able to enjoy this spirited team competition in the Sandbelt region. A special thank you goes to Golf Australia and Lagardere for working with us to resolve some scheduling challenges. The group’s overall combined efforts are certainly in the best interests of golf fans here in Australia.”
Meanwhile, Sony, the electronics giant, has extended its title sponsorship deal of the PGA Tour event in Hawaii for another four years.
The new agreement for the Sony Open runs to 2022, with the 2018 edition next month to be the 20th anniversary of Sony's sponsorship of the tournament, tying it for the third-longest tenured title sponsor on the PGA Tour.
