Lidl in first sponsorship of EHF Euro
Lidl, the Germany-based supermarket chain, will have a presence at another international handball event after signing up as an official sponsor of the Men’s EHF Euro 2018 in Croatia.
Under the agreement announced today, Lidl will receive extensive brand exposure at the competition, which takes place in four cities across the country (Split, Porec, Zagreb and Varaždin) from 12 to 28 January.
This will include floor stickers on the courts at each game and advertising on all perimeter LED boards, including new ones behind the goal put in place to ensure sponsors enjoy even greater visibility than at previous tournaments.
Meanwhile, fans will be able to enter online competitions to win tickets for the Lidl Fan Sofa located next to the court at matches at the Arena Zagreb.
There will also be exclusive event branding on selected products sold in Lidl retail stores across Europe.
Lidl, an established sponsor of the German and French handball federations, struck out on the global stage this year in a deal for the 2017 men’s World Championships held in France, but this will be its first involvement in a European championships.
Infront Sports & Media, the international sports agency that is the exclusive media and marketing partner of the European Handball Federation for EHF Euro events, has now signed up six of the maximum of eight sponsors targeted for the tournament in January.
Stephan Herth, executive director Summer Sports for Infront, said: "We are thrilled to have secured Lidl in their first sponsorship of these championships. Their commitment clearly underlines the growing popularity of handball, not only as a spectator sport, but also as an ever appealing marketing platform."
