IMG adds Ashes to Sport 24 portfolio for first time
Sport 24, the in-flight and in-ship service owned by IMG, the international sports agency, has struck a deal with Cricket Australia to show all five test maches in the upcoming Ashes series against England live.
For the first time, passengers travelling internationally with Sport 24’s 12 airline and nine cruise line partners will be able to watch live action from the tests, as well as the five one-day internationals and three Twenty20 international tri-series matches.
The Ashes gets under way in Brisbane on Thursday, and the action will be made available on the Sport 24 and Sport 24 Extra channels.
Richard Wise, senior vice-president of channels and content, IMG Media, said: “The Ashes is always an eagerly-anticipated affair played by cricket’s oldest rivals. We are delighted passengers will be able to see live action on both channels across all parts of the Tour for what promises to be yet another competitive and passionate series of matches.”
Ben Amarfio, Cricket Australia's executive general manager broadcasting, digital media and commercial, added: “We want fans around the world to be able to see every minute of the action on the field no matter if they’re on the land, in the air or at sea, and this partnership provides the ability to access Australian international cricket content in those situations.”
This year IMG extended its in-flight and in-ship rights to the German Bundesliga until 2020, and Sport 24’s portfolio also includes the 2018 Fifa World Cup, Premier League and the Uefa Champions League, NBA basketball, American football's NFL, tennis grand slams and golf’s Ryder Cup and majors.
