ESPN teams up with Snapchat in SportsCenter venture
ESPN, the US sports broadcaster, is taking one of its most popular shows to Snapchat, the photo and video messaging app, as part of a new two-year deal with the platform’s owner Snap Inc.
ESPN’s SportsCenter show, which features sports news and highlights, will air twice a day on Snapchat’s Discover page at 5am and 5pm (Eastern time) on weekdays and 5am on weekends.
The programme will be the first daily sports show to air on the platform.
Each edition of ‘SportsCenter’ will be between three and five minutes long.
Connor Schell, executive vice-president, content at ESPN, said: “SportsCenter on Snapchat provides a creative new format and platform for our flagship franchise to continue to evolve. Katie, Elle, Cassidy, Jason and Cy collectively bring a new style, energy and substance that I believe will connect with Snapchat’s audience in a real way. I’m thrilled to bring this level of talent and personality to a new and innovative daily touchpoint for ESPN.”
