Hong Kong team joins line-up for Volvo Ocean Race
A Hong Kong outfit has been named as the fifth entry in the 2017-18 edition of sailing’s Volvo Ocean Race.
Team Sung Hung/Kai Scallywag will be making its debut in the prestigious round-the-world event, which will feature a stopover in Hong Kong early next year.
The campaign is backed by Seng Huang Lee, the executive chairman of Sun Hung Kai & Co, which owns the supermaxi yacht Scallywag, and is intended to promote competitive sailing and build a long-lasting legacy for youth participation in Asia.
The team will be skippered by Australian sailor David Witt.
The other confirmed entries for the Volvo Ocean Race to date are AkzoNobel, Dongfeng Race Team, Mapfre, and Vestas 11th Hour Racing.
The event starts in Alicante in Spain on 22 October and will cover 46,000 nautical miles, visiting 12 host cities and culminating in The Hague in the Netherlands in June 2018.
