Silverstone to stage World Rallycross Championship event in 2018
Silverstone, the UK motor racing circuit, is to host a round of the World Rallycross Championship in 2018, it has been announced.
Silverstone in Northamptonshire will replace Lydden Hill in Canterbury, Kent, the home of the UK leg since 2014, with a race that will form part of a new World Rallycross Festival event.
It will be the first time that Silverstone, which is best known for hosting Formula 1's British Grand Prix, stages an elite rallycross competition.
Paul Bellamy, World RX managing director at international sports agency IMG, said: “We have been in talks internally at IMG for some time about creating a large scale motorsport festival weekend and we are delighted that Silverstone is able to share our vision for the future."
